Everything you need to know about gold.

Not all that glitters is gold!

Statistics show that many people do not understand what they are buying.

For many, gold is all that glitters, but it's not.

Even the gilding is different. But now is not about that.

Let's talk about gold alloys from which jewelry is made.

Gold has properties and classification, and the color of the metal and the price of the product depend on this. As a rule, jewelry is not made of pure gold. This is very expensive and impractical as pure gold is very soft and can easily damage the piece of jewelry. Usually a gold alloy is used. In this case, you must know how many carats of gold are in your piece of jewelry.

Carat is a measure that describes the level of purity of a gold alloy.

  • Pure gold is 24K or 999 gold, gold content is 99.9%.

  • 18K or 750 sample, here the gold content is 75%, and 25% impurities.

  • 14K or 585 fineness, gold content is 58.5%, and everything else is impurities.

  • There is also a 375 sample or 9K, here the gold content is 38%. They make budget, not expensive jewelry from it.

  • There are even rarer 22K alloys, it contains 91.67% gold,

Impurities are necessary in order for the gold alloy to be more durable, but ductile, to change its color (white, pink, yellow gold), and also to influence the cost.

The most popular gold alloys for jewelry are 14K and 18K.

Now we see the higher the sample, the more gold content in the product, the higher the value of the jewelry.

I hope this article will help you make the right choice when buying gold items.
